Forest of Keroual – Green lung of Brest
There are places that have a soul, a life of their own, places reminiscing love affairs, gardens resembling golf courses. The
A castle, an old mill, stretches of water, beautiful lanes bordered by magnificent trees, large patches of lawn: this state park has it all. You come as a simple visitor, you leave as a faithful friend.
The green soul of this forest is deeply rooted in trees that have witnessed the passage of time. The oldest of these trees is said to be 300 years old: it knows everything that has passed since the time of the Sun King. For other, younger trees, the memories date back to the French Revolution.
The design of the large straight lanes is typical of the 18th century’s taste for French-style gardens. Here and there however, concealed among the trees, less formal paths wind along stretches of water or small valleys, introducing an “English garden” feel to the whole park.
This 48-hectare forest is home to a large number of local and exotic species: tulip tree of Virginia, maple tree, ash tree, chestnut tree, oak tree, birch, aspen, acacia, sequoia, cryptomeria, Radiata pine and others.
